Seceding the Han Dyansty, three Emperors laid claim to the deteriorating Han Dynasty leading to each having control of different regions of the Han Dynasty and the establishment of the Era of The Three Kingdoms. The Three Kingdoms were Wei, Shu, and Wu (220- 280 AD). The early periods held many wars and infighting between the warlords however in the later period it became more stable and peaceful. The last 20 years saw the destabilization of the tristate peace and saw the overthrow of all three States by the Jin Dynasty. The Three Kingdoms period is thought to be one of the most bloody parts of Chinese history with a census at the end of the Han Dynasty estimating a population of 50 million people with a census at the beginning of the Jin dynasty estimating 16 million people.
