ZnO A bitter-tasting, white to gray powder that is insoluble in water, soluble in alkalies and acids; melts at 1978_C; used as a pigment, moldgrowth inhibitor, and dietary supplement, and in cosmetics, electronics, and color photography. Also known as philosopher’s wool.
