yo

Yo means "yarn over" as in laying the working yarn over the right needle from front to back, then proceeding to the next stitch as if a stitch had been made. This yo is knit or purled on the next round, leaving a small hole in the work below the new stitch. Yo is frequently used in lace knitting patterns.
