ultrasonic viscoelastic tissue measurements

Characterization of tissue mechanical properties, particularly the elasticity or tactile stiffness of tissue, has important medical applications because these properties are closely linked to tissue health. Palpation is a traditional example by which abnormal tissue is detected through sensing its stiffness with touch. However, palpation is subjective and may not be feasible when the target region of evaluation is deep within the body.
