segment tag
In EDI, a unique identifier for a segment. Within EDIFACT, for example, segment tags are three-letter uppercase codes that prefix the elements within a document. In ANSI X.12, the segment tags are two or three-letter uppercase codes. A segment tag is similar to a record type identifier.
