regulation of fruit ripening

By botanical definition, fruits are seed-bearing organs of plants that function to protect and disseminate their contents. Most fruits can be classified as either fleshy or dry. The former are generally dispersed by organisms that consume the fruit and deposit the digestion-resistant seeds at another location. Seeds of dry or dehiscent fruit are typically dispersed by wind, gravity, or physical attachment to an animal.
