public health physician
A professional who plans and participates in medical care or research program in hospital, clinic, or other public medical facility. Responsibilities include:
- Provides medical care for eligible persons, and institutes program of preventive health care in county, city, or other government or civic division.
- Gives vaccinations, imposes quarantines, and establishes standards for hospitals, restaurants, and other areas of possible danger.
- May conduct research in particular areas of medicine to aid in cure and control of disease.
- May be designated Medical Officer.
