precollimator

Metal (piece of lead with rectangular hole) that is positioned in front of the kV source, after the beam has passed through the kV beam target, and used to shape the kV beam and limit its maximum field size. This lead aperture defines the maximum opening for the X-ray beam being emitted from exit window of the X-ray tube. See also kV collimator.
