The generally accepted system of naming plants. The study of plant variation and kinds leads to classification—the grouping of individual plants, the grouping of the groups, and the organizing of the groups (taxa) into ranks. Nomenclature deals with the naming of the taxa, the goal being to establish one correct scientific name for a given taxon with a given definition.
