The first section of this article discusses use of satellite pictures to detect subtle changes in color reflected by the ocean, due to phytoplankton concentration. Studies based on these color changes are used to determine ocean productivity. The second section discusses underwater laser line scan systems and obtaining of high-quality, panoramic images of submerged objects at extended viewing ranges.
