Magnetotellurics is a geophysical exploration technique that uses surface measurements of natural electromagnetic fields to image subsurface electrical resistivity. First proposed by L. Cagniard and A. N. Tikhonov in the 1950s, it has developed into a powerful tool for geophysical exploration on a wide range of scales.
