An order of mammals containing the single family Macroscelididae (elephant shrews). Although formerly thought to be most closely associated with shrews, ungulates, and rabbits and hares, they are now thought to be most closely associated with elephants, aardvarks, golden moles, hyraxes, and sea cows on the basis of DNA investigations.
