hyperspectral remote sensing

“Hyperspectral” refers to the many wavelength bands that are characteristic of a remote sensing spectral data set. With earlier remote sensing systems, data were acquired in four to seven spectral bands. Airborne and space-borne hyperspectral systems, or imaging spectrometers, can simultaneously acquire data in hundreds of spectral bands. Because of the increased information content of the data acquired by hyperspectral systems, many more applications can be addressed by this remote sensing technique.
