human/machine differentiation
Networked systems are vulnerable to cyber attacks in which computer programs—variously called bots, spiders, scrapers, and so forth—pose as legitimate human users. Abuses have included defrauding financial payment systems, creating vast numbers of accounts for sending unsolicited email (“spamming”), stealing personal information, skewing rankings and recommendations in online forums, and ticket scalping, to name but a few.
