ecological zones

Large biogeographical units of land/water that are characterized by their distinct species and communities. The major ecozones are further divided into many smaller ecoregions which share similar natural communities, climate, meteorological factors, topography, elevation, soil types, edaphic factors, and/or other physical characteristics.
