Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection throughout the tropical and subtropical zones. The virus exists in four antigenically distinct serotypes or subtypes. Its main natural reservoir is humans, and it is normally transmitted through the bite of infected female Aedes spp. mosquitoes.
