Death metal is a sub-genre of metal music that evolved in mid 1980's, as a blend of thrash and early black metal. It is characterized by heavily distorted guitars, growling vocals and fast drumming. Lyrically, it originally dealt with death and other violent themes, but later the range of topics was spread to various themes such as philosophy or social themes.
