chameleon
The name for about 80 species of small-to-medium-sized lizards that comprise the family Chamaeleontidae and occur mainly in Africa and Madagascar. The American chameleons (Anolis) belong to a different family of lizards, the Iguanidae. This reptile is insectivorous and beneficial to humans. It commonly is found on vegetation, especially the green parts.
