ceramic fiber
An aluminum silicate fiber made by heating aluminum fluoride at 1000¬1200°C with silica and water vapor. The crystals, or “whiskers,” obtained are up to 1 cm long and have high strength. Ceramic fibers are used in reinforced plastics.
