brominated flame retardants in the environment
Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are materials added to or treatments applied to products or materials that significantly increase their resistance to catching fire. BFRs are used in a variety of consumer products, and several of those are produced in large quantities. Some BFRs have been detected in environmental matrices and human tissue, which can be attributed to the anthropogenic uses of these compounds.
