bermuda grass
A long-lived perennial (Cynodon spp.) that originated in Africa. It is believed that in the early 1500s Spanish explorers unintentionally brought the first common Bermuda grass seeds to the Western Hemisphere with the hay that fed their horses. The weedy common type, C. dactylon (the type species), can now be found throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the world.
