The Daming Palace Ruins

The Daming Palace Ruins is located on high land in Longshou, in the northeast of ancient Xi’an. It covers an area of 1.2 square miles and measured 1.6 miles long and 0.9 miles wide. It was built by the Emperor Li Shimin. The palace has nine gates and was divided into two parts: Qian Chao for the emperors holding court and Nei Ting for living and recreation. It was excavated in 1950 and was declared as the national key cultural relic protection unit in 1961. The Daming Palace reflects the great Tang Dynasty’s prosperous, broad culture and the highest architectural level of that time.
