The tea earliest reached Europe around 1610 on Dutch ships. Tea became so prevail in Dutch high society that “the craze for tea parties resulted in the ruin of many homes.” Tea became popular in Russia after its arrival by the overland route in 1618 when the Chinese ambassador presented some to the Czar.
