The Nostra Senyora de Meritxell sanctuary has some elements of architectural heritage that comprises various man made scenery like old Romanesque church, the new sanctuary is next to the Royal Road with oratories and boundary cross. The old chapel was dedicated to Sant Mary and later it undergoes many changes from 17th century. In 1972, the chapel caught fire and restored in 1994. Currently the chapel is been built permanently as an exhibition in the memory of Meritxell, describing the history of the Andorran people’s devotion to their patron Saint.
