Alcoholic beverage (liquor) distilled grain, which owes its most characteristic infusion of juniper flavor.

The name comes from the word Geneva, a corruption of either the French or the Dutch genièvre junever two words meaning juniper.

TYPES OF GENEVA

The two main types of gin are the British variety, called dry or London gin, and Dutch type, called Geneva schnapps or Hollands.

Dry gin is prepared from grain alcohol purified by fractional distillation.
