1904 World's Fair
Properly known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, it celebrated the centennial of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. Held on the present-day grounds of Forest Park and Washington University. 62 foreign nations and 43 of the US's 45 states staged exhibits. The most widely spread legacy of the fair though is the foods. The waffle-style ice cream cone, hamburger, hot dog, peanut butter, iced tea, and cotton candy all became popular at the fair, and the global audience disseminated it when they returned home.
