safety loop

An electrical safety loop that must be continuously closed before the beam can be initiated. A beam, motion, or power interlock or fault triggers a node to open the loop. Any node can open the safety loop, as long as the node is not misconfigured or malfunctioning. The control system identifies which node opened the loop and reports this information in the fault message. See also BEL, MEL, PEL, and KVBEL.
