A professional who plans programming for radio or television stations or network. Responsibilities include:
- Determines type, length, and time of each program, including commercial announcements and newscasts, as well as entertainment programs.
- Evaluates programming available from distributors, syndicators, and independent producers to recommend acquisitions for broadcast.
- Confers with producer and director, television or director, radio to solve production or casting problems.
- May establish work schedules for announcers , audition and hire talent, and negotiate contracts for spot commercial announcements.
- May be known as Director, International Programs if programming for foreign broadcasts.
