A professional who interviews new prison inmates to obtain social and criminal histories to aid in classification and assignment of prisoners to appropriate work and other activities. Responsibilities include:
- Gathers data, such as work history, school, criminal, and military records, family background, habits, religious beliefs, and prisoner's version of crime committed.
- Analyzes prisoner's social attitudes, mental capacity, character, and physical capabilities and prepares admission summary based on data obtained.
