double beta decay
The process in which a neutron in a nucleus transforms into a proton by emitting an electron and an anti-neutrino is known as beta decay. When two neutrons undergo this transformation simultaneously, the process is called double beta-decay. Of particular interest is the hypothetical process of neutrinoless double beta decay, in which the neutrons transform by emitting two electrons, but no anti-neutrinos.
